Cold and wet weather kept us in most of the last week when we weren’t working. Calvin quite contently laid in the yard for long stretches while the temperature was less than 20 degrees with 30+ MPH winds. There’s no denying the husky in his lineage.
On Monday The Hoover Company’s Plant One in downtown North Canton, Ohio was sold to a consortium of investor/developers for around million dollars. The consortium included Bob DeHoff, local real estate magnate, and Covington Capital, the development firm resposible for the Canal Place complex just to the north in Akron. A press conference was held in the afternoon that was attened by well over a hundred people including many local, county and even state government representatives. Respects were paid to the spirit of the Hoover Company. Sketches of future repurposing were displayed. Refreshingly, no lofty, unrealistic promises were offered. Just the honest hope that tenents would be found. Indeed, one was already at work clearing out a secton of the plant while the press conference was going on. Another was said to be in final lease negotiations while two more are in early talks. It’s hoped that portions of the property can be used for warehousing, office, light industrial, retail, housing, and possibly a hotel.

They expressed their desire to keep as much of the original structure and appearance as they possibly could.
